Case Study: Harkness Kennett
Writing skills are one of the top six attributes corporates look for when hiring communications professionals. Yet they also rank among the top 10 deficits perceived by recruiters.
Harkness Kennett is a leading partner for businesses requiring communications professionals to cover interim staffing needs. To support its new programme of continuing professional development (CPD), Harkness Kennett asked Ideal Worldsmiths to run a refresher writing workshop for its interims.
We sent out a pre-workshop questionnaire to gauge the level of this mixed group and to tailor activities to the needs of participants. In the group, we focused on writing styles, storytelling, cutting corporate jargon and editing down text to a tweet. In the free follow-up, Mark coached individuals wanting to tackle a specific writing challenge.
I thoroughly enjoyed the workshop and it did exactly what I wanted – refreshed my approach and gave me a new sense of energy; I expected to find this workshop moderately useful and pick up a few tips, but I really enjoyed it and have come away with lots of new ideas.
